Community barn dance

Dust off your dancing shoes because this Saturday night is the 8th Annual Menifee Community Barn Dance and Food Drive. No matter if you have two left feet, this event promises to entertain, and maybe even teach, the most timid of dancers.

Sponsored by Valley- Wide Recreation and Park District and put on by local residents Bill and Colleen Ackerman, this event is bringing a little dose of down home dancing all in the name of community service and contribution.

The Ackerman’s have taken the spirit of Thanksgiving and giving back to heart, making it their mission to serve their community all year long. As local teachers, Bill and Colleen know a thing or two about being involved.

Together they have orchestrated the barn dance fundraiser many successful times, with all of the proceeds from the night benefiting the Menifee Valley Community Cupboard.

Sandy Aldridge of the Community Cupboard sings the couple’s praise, rejoicing that their kindness has aided the Cupboard tremendously over the years.

Being a physical education teacher at a local Menifee middle school and coach of their Bell Mountain running club, Bill Ackerman has made teaching fitness his main mission.

His counterpart, Colleen Ackerman, is the owner of a Menifee founded health and fitness training and consultation business called Fit To Serve. She also lives and loves fitness on a daily basis and enjoys helping others do the same.

The Ackerman’s will spend Saturday evening instructing an array of different dance moves ranging from line dancing, folk dancing, partner dancing, and more. The whole family is encouraged to come on out and try their feet at some old fashioned fun.

No experience is necessary; just bring a little extra energy and your very best laughs for a night of barn bumping beats. The festivities start at 7:00 pm Saturday, November 19, 2011 in the Wheatfield Park Community Center.

Admission to the barn dance is free. However, your ticket to the merriment is a donation of non-perishable food items at the door, or a cash contribution, if you prefer.

This year the need for assistance right here in the Menifee Valley has increased just from years past. More families and individuals need a little extra help, especially during the holidays, than ever before.

Subsequently, the Cupboard's need for donations to increase their ability to give to as many disadvantaged people as possible, is at an all time high. Let’s spread a little holiday cheer this Saturday by supporting the Community Cupboard while dancing and donating.
