The Menifee Valley Community Cupboard announced Thursday that it had raised $2,977.00 in donations during Wednesday night's Chamber of Commerce mixer.
Waste Management hosted the mixer, while the Community Cupboard provided the location. Attendees were encouraged to bring in food donations. Twenty frozen turkeys, along with several grocery gift cards, were brought in by various business people.
For the past two years the Community Cupboard has provided the location for the November mixer to raise awareness about hunger and poverty in Menifee.
Both the Rotary Club of Menifee, and the Kiwanis Club of Menifee, each donated checks for $1,000.00.
Menifee 24/7 offered free advertising on its website for anyone who made a $50.00 donation to the Community Cupboard, of which $500.00 was raised that evening.
The Menifee Valley Community Cupboard, located in the Sun City Shopping Center, currently assists approximately 1,100 people each month with emergency food at no cost. Seniors on fixed incomes, the working poor, the homeless and struggling families seek assistance when they find their own pantries at home, bare.
For Thanksgiving, the Community Cupboard is targeting 500 gift baskets to families in Menifee.
