Thursday nights have come to life at The Beer Hunter with the start of Karaoke Nights.
Just as Thursday night football finished up, James Genes, who runs Day & Night, a mobile DJ service here in Menifee, got the late night rockin' as he passed the microphone to one singer after another.
To make the first Karaoke Night at The Beer Hunter more interesting, the restaurant issued a "best singer" contest, offering a $50.00 gift certificate. About twenty people competed, belting out renditions of such melodies as "The Piano Man", "Heaven", "Ring of Fire", "Ice Cream Man, "Hey Jude", "Love Is A Battlefield", "Dreams", "Pour Some Sugar", among others.
James Genes kept the folks singing by passing out Mardi Gras beads to anyone who sang. "I've been doing karaoke for 26 years, and so far the night's going great", says Genes. "All it takes is to get some people singing to encourage other people to sing."
By the evening's end, Bill Gillette, the manager at The Beer Hunter, selected three finalists for the contest. The crowd cheered on their favorite and picked out Erica as the winner.
Karaoke will continue every Thursday night, from 9:00pm to close, at The Beer Hunter.
