Menifee resident, Miriam Sisson, was recently accepted into the Student Ambassador program of People to People. This summer she will be representing Menifee, California, and the United States as she tours England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. She will have the opportunity to meet with a member of Parliament, volunteer in humanitarian project that provides peat moss to poor elderly to burn in their homes during the winter and a home stay with a UK family. She as raised about half of her $7500 goal and has several fundraisers scheduled in the coming week.
The People to People movement dates back more than half a century to its founding by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956. Eisenhower was acting on his firm belief that direct interaction between ordinary citizens around the world can promote cultural understanding and world peace. That proud legacy of hope lives on in People to People Ambassador Programs on seven continents.
