Yesterday, around at 7:25pm, deputies from the Menifee Police Department Special Enforcement Team were patrolling the Menifee Lakes neighborhood. The deputies saw a tan Jaguar collide with another vehicle on La Piedra Street near Inspiration Lake. The driver of the Jaguar fled the accident scene. After finding the victims in the struck vehicle were not injured, the deputies attempted to locate the Jaguar.

They found the Jaguar in the area of Menifee Road and Scott Road. The driver then abandoned the vehicle on Menifee Road south of Scott Road, climbed a fence, and ran west into the backyard of a large residential property. A perimeter was set up around the neighborhood by responding deputies. With the assistance of the Riverside Sheriff’s Helicopter and a K-9 from the Temecula Sheriff's Station, a yard-to-yard search was initiated.

The suspect was located hiding in a motor home parked in the back yard of a residence on Bellamy Lane. He refused orders to exit the motor home and was subsequently bitten one time by the K-9. The suspect was then taken into custody without further incident.

Upon searching the Jaguar, it was learned the car had been stolen from the city of Murrieta on January 28th, 2011. Deputies located numerous items of stolen property and a large amount of narcotics inside the stolen vehicle. The stolen items included laptop computers, jewelry, cameras, tools, and approximately one hundred thousand dollars in U.S. savings bonds. Investigation revealed these items were from residential burglaries in Temecula and San Jacinto.

The suspect in this case was identified as 33-year-old Wilson Homer LaHood, a parolee at large. William LaHood was later booked at the Southwest Detention Center for vehicle theft, multiple counts of possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, hit and run, and resisting arrest.

Anyone with further information regarding this suspect or the incident is urged to call Deputy Joshua Greco at the Perris Sheriff’s Station at 951-210-1118.
