Operation Silver Star is a recently created nonprofit organization located here in Menifee that is dedicated to assist the needs of past and present veterans and their families.
When Mr. and Mrs. De La Cruz’s second son, Jesus, joined the Army in 2008, he was immediately deployed to Iraq following basic training. Not long into his deployment, Jesus’ unit was hit by an RPG which resulted in the loss of Jesus’ left leg and shrapnel in his left arm. When the De La Cruz’s got that fateful call that their son was injured in combat, they scrambled to find resources to assist their large family in getting flights and accommodations so they could be with Jesus.
Jesus ended up being transferred to a hospital in San Diego, so the De La Cruz’s did not utilize the resources being provided to them, but that is when the concept of Operation Silver Star came to Mrs. De La Cruz. “There aren’t many local resources”, Mrs. De La Cruz said. “Many of them are located back east.”
Launched in January, 2011, the purpose of Operation Silver Star is to “fill in holes and get people where they need to be” as Mr. De La Cruz says, and to assist current and past veterans and their families in financial aid and/or resources in every aspect. There isn’t anything the De La Cruz’s will not do to ensure veterans and their families get the resources they need.
Operation Silver Star is something the De La Cruz’s are extremely passionate about and hold dear to their hearts. They hope to achieve great success and are confident in their organization and what it has to offer.
