The city council consists of, Edgerton, Kuenzi, Twyman, Mann, and Denver, with Edgerton winning the most votes. It will be awhile until we find out how the write-in candidates fared.

In addition to cityhood passing, voters approved of naming the new city, "Menifee", and approved voting for city council members by district.

So folks, how does "Mayor Wally" sound?

  1. Whoa! As it stands, the Developers have three counts in controlling the city. Kuenzi, Wolons and Denver. Three of the worst. What's even worse is that Wolons bosses are Jerry Stamper and Darcy Castellejos.

What were people thinking? Now we have a huge mess on our hands.

  2. iT looks like districts win, so how does this work for candidates
    Edgerton,Denver, Deines, Mann Sullivan?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Probably,
    Edgerton, Kuenzi,Mann, Deines and Denver.

    ReplyDelete
  4. There is always the possibility of Recalling oficials who do us wrong!

    ReplyDelete
  5. i voted for city but i truely hope the people leading dont win. the only one i want is wally. the rest are the reason why people voted no.

  6. Oh my god, we got trouble with a Capital T.

  7. Just an FYI...I just spoke with the Registrar of Voters and there will be NO final results until 28 days after election day. That is the deadline for certification of the election and none of these results are true until that point. The numbers that they are displaying on the website right now are the absentee ballots that they received through the mail. The next step is to count the absentee ballots that were dropped off at the polling stations and then they will move on to their remaining duties with regard to the votes.

This is all very odd to me...I was under the assumption that the council would be named and would start "unofficially" working toward the cityhood efforts but the Registrar is clear that no business can be done with regard to cityhood until after the vote certification. I will keep you all posted as I hear more.

Us poor write-in candidates, we don't have the smallest clue where we stand! LOL Oh well, 28 more days of uncertainty - I can take it!

  8. I really hope that the unification of these cites will improve our city, we need more parks and we need to clean up that area where the apartments on Encanto are located. Does anybody know if our taxes are going to go up if we do get the name change (Menifee), I live in Sun City right now.

    ReplyDelete
  9. How will appointed positions like planning commissioners and safety commissioners be handled? I would love to help my new city by serving in one of those capacities. If any of the candidates need an appointee, please drop me a line!

    ReplyDelete
  10. In response to Anonymous at 11:03pm, taxes will not increase as a result of the name change, and nor of cityhood. On the other hand, taxes will eventually increase simply because it's the nature of taxes to increase. Even if we were to remain unincorporated, taxes will increase.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Having worked a precinct this year and not finished until 9:30pm, there is no way that these are the results. Our ballots are just arriving at the registrars office. By the total number of votes, this isn't even a third of the ballots received.

    no champagne yet.

    ReplyDelete
  12. i hope things change in the near future. i conpletely agree with the first comment that as of now, we are in trouble if things dont change. keep our fingures crossed.

  13. I think Mayor Wally sounds stupid. Moreover, I cannot believe that Fred Twyman got as many votes as he did. This is stupid! 22 candidates to try and seat an inaugural council... frankly, it is crap.

Wally has not lived here long enough to be called 'Mayor'... I am disappointed!

    ReplyDelete
  14. ...Well gee Wally!... Wally, you were a little hard on the Beaver last night!...

    UNBELIEVABLE!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Now maybe Twyman will wear a suit and tie, or at least a tie, instead a pink polo shirt. We are now a major player in the county of Riverside and our city leaders should look the part. This is not the school board Fred!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Agree with dressing the part. Wonder how the ones with all their dirt uncovered are going to face the public...Wolons will probably stay her cocky self and Stamper will probably stay his sneaky, undermining, wannabe-somebody self.
Thank goodness we don't have to see them on the board and the 'revealing' tags will always be hanging on them. Glad my name is not stamper or wolons...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well, this is certainly disappointing. There is not the tax base here yet to support a "City." Taxes won't just increast, "Eventually," they will increase much more quickly as the new City Council finds out that they don't have enough money to do everything they're going to want to do.

5 years from now would have been the right time to do it. I have no idea why anyone thought that now was a good time to incorporate and become a city.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well I'm happy with the whole thing. I just didn't vote for Kuenzi or Denever, oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think with 'by district' passing, we'll have to create the districts and then have another election in 2 years. I know that there were studies about how to create 'lifestyle' districts, but I'm sure we have to take into account the existing voting precints and divide them up into districts, right? Does anyone know how much leeway there will be regarding the equity of size and population of a district?

  20. I awoke this morning and flipped a light switch and I had electricity. I went into the bathroom and turned on the shower and had hot running water. I hopped in my car and drove on paved, mostly smooth, roads to a job that I am able to earn more than $3 a day, like most people in the world earn. And yesterday I had the privilege to go cast a vote expressing my opinion on how I want my community to function, even though everything didn’t go the way I had voted. I am very proud to live in a place that allows me these blessings.

What disappoints me is that I was in the minority yesterday. Not even one in three of us voted in a time that is most critical to our community. Are our lives that good that we don’t even care? Having said that I believe those candidates that were elected to City Council are a good mix of personalities. I hope they remain “true” to our community and remember that they are there to serve the best interest of the community. I hope to live in this great City for a long time. I wish the council members the best of luck, because their success equals our success.

  21. Well, The developer's girl is in there who will manipulate the process as well as Denver who can be bought. I don't know a thing about Deines and just hope that he isn't controlled by the developers.

We need to send a message to Darcy K and John D. WE ARE WATCHING EVERY MOVE YOU MAKE and gathering information for recall. One move towards developers are you are gone. Remember Murrieta!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Please stop!

That must be a Sun City or Menifee Lakes Master Association person threatening recall already.

Recalls are a waste of time and money (Heven't you learned that yet?). Two years and we'll have another chance to mix up the council if we want.

    Hooray for Menifee!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Deines is not controlled by the developers in any way. He does have 20 years experience in goverment and finance, but that doesn't mean anything since he was NOT elected.

    ReplyDelete
  24. If the results are confirmed as they stand, my deepest sympathies go out to those who voted NO. But if the new "reps" don't support your needs (highly likely), you can always recall them. Suits now can be directed to the city instead of the County. And thanks to the yes people, you now have a local venue that has fewer resources than the county had to be more successful in those pursuits.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Good luck Sun City and Quail Valley. Enjoy your last month of freedom from development.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I live in Quail valley, on the hill that faces Menifee, and I welcome the city and voted for it. I just hope our elected officials will be working for the best of the city and not for them or there pocketbooks. I really hope they will be able to continue what the county started on helping cleaning up Quail valley and enforcing the laws to make the "CITY" as good as it can be.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Quail Valley did not have freedom from development. The County approved that whole "Canyon Heights" thing.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Let me get this straight...

You will recall a city council member elected to a two-year term?

How long do you give them before you feel they must be recalled? How long does the recall process take? Do the math.

Not all my fav's got elected. But come on...Get over it! If you don't like one of our ELECTED folks, plug your nose and vote them out in the next election.

The community at large will not support your recall nonsense.

Leave our new city that 60% of us wanted alone.

    No grouches!

    ReplyDelete
  29. "Mayor Wally" doesn't sound good. Were not Mayberry.(Or not) In a way I kinda fell like those fish in the dentist office from the movie "Finding Nemo". Do all that work trying to escape and succeed, then look at each other and say, "OK. Now what?"

    ReplyDelete
  30. Why is there so much hostility and snobbery towards Quail Valley?

I thought I left Orange County?

  34. It's menifee politics, not the united nations, some of you need to get over yourselves. If you cared that much about who won or lost, or what kind of job they will do - then you should have dropped your name into the hat. I can assure you that there are thousands and thousands of people in this new city that are glad to remove Romoland/Sun City/Quail Valley from their address labels. You're now a viable city with room for growth, two high schools and the chance to build something - quit living in the past, incorporation was the right move and in the long run will make the region more attractive.

    ReplyDelete
  35. "Why is there so much hostility and snobbery towards Quail Valley?

I thought I left Orange County?"

Exactly my thoughts I work in OC so i see this daily.

I live in Quail Vally, my wife and I have great paying jobs and a nice newer custom built house. I know there are some bad parts in Quail Valley but there are also alot of good parts too and Im sure this goes with every city. Just as long there is some local enforcment the bad parts can be cleaned up, im sure.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I’m not sure why there’s hostility and snobbery directed to Quail Valley and other Rural Areas. You act as if Menifee is so exclusive. What does Menifee have that’s exclusive? Does Menifee have exclusive home builders (i.e. Toll Brothers)? Have corporate companies that are not manufacturing or retail based been attracted to Menifee? And I don’t mean minimum wage producing “Wal-Mart” types of companies. If you have nothing exclusive in your area(Whole foods, Bloomingdales, Fortune 100 company etc…), you cannot set yourself apart from the rural areas that surround you that also may be a part of your city in 28 days. I’ve heard nothing but talks of bringing in companies that have low pay unskilled jobs. These are the types of jobs for high school students. Stop dreaming and face reality! Menifee homes are simple working class track homes on small lots. Some homes are larger than others, but they are all the same. So stop your delusions of grandeur! Take that mentality back to OC where it belongs.

    ReplyDelete
  37. When does the Council start working on forming a government? What's the process?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Menifee has a problem. They have a disgruntled significant number of residents who were opposed to the measure. Menifee needs to work with them also for your city to be a success. You didn’t win by a landslide. So far you’ve only won by 1817 votes which is hardly a landslide for a city of approximately 60,000. First, stop disregarding their concerns. They are your constitutes. You can start by not acting as if you are above them because they disagree with your point of view. It's simple. Prove that you’re worthy. Time will tell.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Those that didn't vote can't complain. They voted for the measure also by their absence..

    ReplyDelete
  40. The council can't do anything until the results are all counted and confirmed. It's not final yet.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ok, then it's not final. Pray that Kuenzi and Denver don't get it. We will have a much better chance of getting heard if these two are gone.

How does 5162 people out of an estimated population base of 60500 equal 60%.

    ReplyDelete
  43. The last time I checked 5162 people out of 60500 does not equal a majority and if you think that 8.5% does then you need to check your math. A majority of the people in the area just really didn't care one way or the other. The only people who cared were the ones (council candidates) who are trying to make themselves feel important by trying to impress everyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Come on people, use your math skills. The final tally was 60.68% of those who voted, not the 60,000 people residing in our new city. It is sad that only a little over 8,000 people voted out of the 27,000 registered voters in our city, but at least common sense prevailed and we will have a bright future ahead of us .

    ReplyDelete
  45. 8507 out of 60500 is still only 14% of the population who really cared if a few people got to play politician. If you think that the "elected city council" can do anything that will benefit anyone, then you are dreaming.

    ReplyDelete
  46. My children, ages 8 and 10, care but they didn't get registered to vote in time. So your 14% would have been a little higher.

Have some respect and some pride people.

  49. DISAPPOINT!!! Measure F is Yes! that is not good idea. Menifee should be independent alone this new city. Menifee should not involve with Sun City, Romoland and Quail Valley that Menifee will have more problems later to spend lots of money to develop in Sun City, Romoland and Quail Valley. Those are never improvement in development for many years. Its sound like Sun City, Romoland and Quail Valley take advantage of Menifee that is not fair!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. To the comment above this, "WHAT"? You make no sense. Do you realize that Menifee is intertwined with Sun City? One side of a street is Menifee and the other is Sun City. These comments are to much....

    ReplyDelete
  51. Ok, so 5162 out of 27000 registered voters, that still leaves over 80% (almost 22000) of the people who were either against citihood or just thought that the whole thing was a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  52. There were 30,862 registered voters. Only about 27% of these voters voted. Of those that voted, nearly 61 percent voted YES to CITYHOOD and 39% voted against. Of those that didn't vote, it is their problem. Everyone had a chance to vote by mail or vote at the polls.

I truly think if you didn't vote you should not complain. I voted my husband didn.t I choose not to here he opoin on any issues about cityhood thoses of us who voted either way had a chance to voice ourselves those who didn't VOTE NEXT TIME thanks for listening

True but Unification is on its way to the state level and they will be holding hearings where we will be able to voice our reasons why we want unification. I welcome any of you to join me at the state hearing as well as any prior meeting to learn more about unification. The more community support we have there, the better our chances will be to move the process forward. If interested call 378-5458

  57. I would like to know who was throwing down signs and then putting his own up? People just would not leave the signs alone. They are supposed to be all down in a week.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I just want to say "thanks" to all the candidates who ran, and to all those who supported them.

I believe each had ideas and goals in mind to help make, what is now the City of Menifee, a better place.

I personally knew some of the candidates prior to this, and was fortunate to get to know several more through this process. For me, personally, it was hard to choose only five.

It took a lot of time and effort for the candidates to be a part of this race, and I appreciate them for that.

With regards to time and effort, however, I am dissapointed that more residents couldn't muster up enough time and effort to get out and vote. (It would have taken, what, 10 minutes tops?)

But, what's important now is that we've obtained Cityhood... (thanks Joe for all YOUR hard work!), and we have our City Council.

Now it's time to work together, and towards, making the City of Menifee the best it can be.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I'd say a lot of us got to know some of the candidates only TOO well..AND know their reputations. Those with the shadiest character revealings came in on the bottom, so I guess voters do still regard character of the candidates important. Just hope those oversized green and white signs plastered over the community get cleaned up...probably stored someplace to use in the next "whatever can get me known" campaign. Just hope the areas of Sun City and the rest stay abreast of the new council's actions and publicize it.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I guess I'm wondering how Stamper is Castellejos' boss? Is he the high and mighty leader he wants everyone to believe over there??
He will feed on anything to make himself look good...don't fall for that.

Avalon has to be setting pretty when their contract for managing Menifee Lakes comes up for renewal..can you invision stamper NOT automatically paying them back for their contribution to his campaign? Next, expect him to do all he can to get Peters hired as the new city's attorney; the first thing he did when he took over the Menifee Lakes Master Assn board. Yep, they canned Adams and Kessler and here came their in-pocket buddy Peters to protect and carry out their vendettas for them.

  64. The council can vote themselves $500/month pay for a City the size of Menifee. I know that they will choose not to because of what they said at the Paloma forum. Edgerton, Twyman, and Denver stated they would not accept pay if they were elected to the city council. I am sure they will stick to their word. Right guys?

  67. VOTE NOT 100% ACCURATE!
Vote by mail, Provisional Voting, still have yet to be counted! Over 2600 votes are still waiting to be counted! The registrar of voters has not counted them yet, nor do they know how many of them are from "The Proposed New City".

    ReplyDelete
  68. There are 2575 ballots yet to be counted, according to the Registrar of Voters, Barbara Dunsmore. They will be complete and posted online by 5pm Sat. That represents an additional 30% more votes, so the results could change dramatically. If I were Twyman, Mann and Denver, I'd be a bit concerned.

    ReplyDelete
  69. If I were Kuenzi I'd be concerned! I'm pleased about this actually... now there is a better chance that AT LARGE will be approved over DISTRICTING... ! At Large is down by some 319 votes. Come on... bring on AT LARGE... We all spent so much time educating the public on city hood that we forgot about educating the voters on AT LARGE versus DISTRICTING!

The candidates will be fine...stop making something of something that is not there!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I am glad to see that our community will finally have a voice of its own. I do wish that more voters would have given a closer look when deciding the manner in which our future council leaders will be chosen in an election. Voting for “at large” provides that all residents will have more choices in the candidates running for office and that all votes will count for every council position; whereas voting “by district”, after the arguments end as to where the lines will be drawn, each incumbent, or those deciding to challenge the office, will be elected just by residents in their area.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I agree with the comments from June 06, 2008 8:42 AM. We should not have to wait until the dust has settled and our newly elected officials are in office. If they, and every other candidate that ran for council shows the slightest consideration for our community, they should immediately retrieve every single sign they, or their representatives have posted. Only then will we find out if all the applicants that ran for council really do care about our city, or they are just giving us lip service.
