Here's what the Valley News says about Foote...
Stone's primary campaign opponent is Deane Foote, a Temecula area winery owner and organic farmer. Foote is president of the Southwest California Vintners Association, but he lacks the degree of name recognition that Stone has built throughout the area over the past two decades. The Valley Chronicle says the following...
Foote, 57, has described his campaign as a grassroots effort, and he submitted documents indicating he had not raised or spent more than $1,000 in the race, according to county officials. He has cited traffic congestion and a possible need for a drought-related moratorium on subdivision approvals and construction as key issues.
Deane Foote has a selling point in his bid for the Riverside County Third District supervisor's seat: He is beholden to no one. He has taken no campaign funds, and so he owes no one anything.
That's the same stand David Peters has taken in his run for the state's 37th Senatorial District. And much like Peters, the selling point just does not have enough sell.
Foote, like Peters, has not prepared himself enough for the position. The organic farmer and winery owner, for instance, backs a half-cent sales tax to keep the county solvent during California's budget crisis, but he does not yet know how he would spend the money coming in.
Considering the financial backing and lack of a major campaign efforts, I'm impressed with the 28% election results. Possibly just a vote against Supervisor Stone?
